A family-friendly museum and country park

Bodelwyddan Castle & Park is a family-friendly museum set in over 200 acres of grounds. In our museum we have a magnificent collection of 19th century portraits from the National Portrait Gallery, as well as fine furniture and decorative arts all displayed in beautiful Victorian rooms. For younger visitors our interactive galleries, explorer buckets, trails, quizzes and hands-on activities are a real success story. Our popular multimedia guide, the i-Bod, is available in English, Welsh and BSL. We also have tactile maps and resources for visually impaired visitors.

The expansive deer park with breath-taking views features an adventure play area and the unusual remains of First World War practice trenches. New for summer 2016 is a system of replica trenches for visitors to explore and discover what trench life was really like.

Also worthy of exploring during your visit is our 16 acre woodland, rich with rare plants, birds and mammals; the Victorian orchard; and the lovely formal garden.

image2016 is an exciting year for our charity, Bodelwyddan Castle Trust, with several new developments recently completed or underway. At Easter we launched our revamped Victorian Inventions & Amusements galleries and opened a new Victorian school room, which is a great resource for inspiring school children to discover their past. Work has started on a system of replica First World War trenches inspired by the original ones in our grounds, which we hope to open for summer. We are working with local community volunteers to plant a wildflower meadow with native hedgerows around our new Parkland Orchard. And our ticket sales point and gift shop will be moving to a room in the base of the tower opposite the main entrance, which will give better wheelchair access. We will do all we can to minimise the impact on our visitors while building work is taking place.

Our events programme is always popular, with something throughout the year for all the family. Every time you visit or come to one of our events, you are supporting the work of our charity which is all about promoting learning, heritage, arts and the environment.
